Tsunami

I've been looking at a few pictures of this disaster and thought I'd share. This photograph really brought home the point to me; made me understand the magnitude of this disaster. I saw debris...then I noticed the human shapes...and then it hit me. There are a lot of dead bodies there. I'm also really struck by the appearance that all of the bodies ended up in pretty much the same position, and almost all of them face-down. It's just astounding.

Renice weighs in on the most chilling photo she's seen.

And if you haven't already done so, consider donating. Buy one less CD or DVD this month, or brew your own coffee instead of going to Starbucks.

[Imported comment* originally authored by b.] I could mention how the US govt. will be sending aid for you (somewhere around 35 million at last check) -- to help rebuild, but then someone would just tell me that i am a heartless bastard - on a side note, I do intend to make my own donation, but I just wish my government wouldn't make that decision for me.

[Imported comment* originally authored by renice.] I don't mind the feds using my tax money to fund direct humanitarian aid near as much as I mind them funding faith-based orgs to do the work (http://www.pbs.org/now/politics/churchandstate2.html).

[Imported comment* originally authored by Travis.] And I'll add that the current US population is 295 million. Meaning that the $350 million pledged by Bush comes out to a whopping $1.18 per person. Wow. How generous. :-/

I had seen simmilar photos such as the one you had linked too, and it is chilling to first see the wood, then see that some of it is not wood....
That is why when jason asked me if we wanted to donate money to help the red cross in their efforts, it was an easy decision to say yes. I only hope others think the same thing we do.
