Why I need to get rid of my car.

I drive it once a week and it costs me this much:

[Imported comment* originally authored by Tim.] The only reason that I use holly's car anymore is for errands (food, clothes, etc), which you could probably do on foot with your location. Trips to chicagoland without holly are accomplished by a $13 rental or a train ticket.
You should give it a try. My dad has lived in chicago for 16 years without a car.

[Imported comment* originally authored by Mike.] What you should do, is buy yourself a man's car...like a Nissan 350Z, or a Subaru WRX.
That way, driving will be fun again (unlike driving your Civic with its anemic 1.6L and its pedestrian suspension), you'll drive more often, and it will justify the cost of ownership.
The WRX, with its AWD, is better suited to Chicago winters. However with a good set of snow tires mounted on a second set of rims the Z can be quite stable in snown and ice with all its electronic nannies.
Neither car is very large, so parking is no problem, and both get decent gas mileage compared to their peers.
NO EXCUSES!

[Imported comment* originally authored by jason.] it's not like i'm moving out of champaign, but i know that if i lived in a large urban environment that there is no way that i would bother with a car. driving can be fun, but the overall cost, traffic congestion and inability to do nothing while driving would leave me uninterested in owning a car in that location.
